One of Spain’s most respected Private Equity professionals, with over 25 years of experience—most of it as Chief Executive of Spain’s leading Private Equity firm for more than two decades, Mercapital.

Mercapital was the leading Private Equity firm in Spain, and the only one with a presence in the main Latin American markets.

Over its 27-year history, it invested in 115 companies (62 platforms and 53 add-ons) and played a key active role in their growth and development. During his career, he also served as Chairman of the European industry association EVCA (European Venture Capital Association), as well as Chairman of ASCRI (Spanish Venture Capital Association).

Between 2010 and 2013, Javier relocated to São Paulo, from where he led Mercapital’s expansion in Brazil, Mexico and Colombia. After that, from Sydney, Australia, he took part in the restructuring of Leighton, a construction group controlled by ACS, the world’s largest infrastructure and concessions group.

Javier holds a degree in Civil Engineering (Roads, Canals and Ports) from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and an MBA from INSEAD.
